ClassShuffle is operated by Humbert Digital Products LLC.
1. Information We Collect
Account information includes your name, email, account identifiers, authentication provider information, preferences and plan status. Classroom information can include class names, student names or display names, grouping relationships, placement needs, Readiness Levels, group assignments, saved group sets, classroom layouts, seating charts, seating assignments and related settings. Payment information includes subscription status, plan, billing periods, payment status and Stripe customer, subscription and transaction identifiers; payment providers process transaction amounts and payment details. We do not directly store complete card numbers. Technical information includes authentication/session information, limited first-party account activity timestamps, distinct activity dates, usage counts, account-level feature usage information and diagnostic/security logs. Our hosting and authentication providers may process IP addresses and request information to deliver and secure the service. Support information includes what you submit, your contact details and browser/page information included with feedback.
2. How We Use Information
We use information to operate and authenticate accounts, save classroom work, provide grouping and seating features, administer trials and subscriptions, respond to support requests, prevent abuse, diagnose errors and improve the service. Student information is subject to the narrower purposes below.
3. How We Use Student Information
We use student information only as reasonably necessary to provide ClassShuffle, maintain and secure it, support users, troubleshoot and improve functionality directly related to the service. We do not sell or rent student information, use it for targeted or behavioral advertising, build advertising profiles, market unrelated products to students or use it for unrelated commercial purposes. Do not enter unnecessary medical records, full IEP or 504 documents, counseling records, detailed disciplinary records, Social Security numbers, home addresses or other highly sensitive information. Readiness Levels and placement needs do not require diagnoses or explanations.
4. Teacher and School Responsibilities
Teachers should ensure they are authorized to enter information and use ClassShuffle under applicable law and school policies, and limit what they provide to what is needed. Humbert Digital Products LLC retains its own applicable responsibilities. We do not assume teachers universally consent on behalf of students.
5. Ownership of Classroom Information
Teachers retain ownership of the classroom information they provide. Our permission to process it is limited to operating the service and the purposes described in this policy and our Terms.
6. Service Providers and Data Sharing
Google/Firebase provides authentication, the database and backend infrastructure, and stores account and classroom information. Vercel hosts and delivers the application; it processes requests and technical information needed for hosting. Google and Microsoft handle sign-in when you choose those providers; we do not send classroom rosters or seating data to them for sign-in. Stripe handles checkout, subscriptions and billing and receives account/billing identifiers and payment information, not classroom rosters or seating charts. Resend delivers complimentary-access account emails and receives the recipient’s email and message. Our Google Apps Script support service and Google email receive information you submit in support or feedback; avoid including unnecessary student information. Providers process information needed for their services. We may also disclose information when legally required, to protect rights or safety, or in a business transfer subject to appropriate protections and applicable law. We do not sell or rent personal information.
7. Cookies, Local Storage, and Similar Technologies
Firebase authentication uses browser persistence and authentication/session tokens to keep you signed in. ClassShuffle uses localStorage and sessionStorage for guest classroom work, import drafts, preferences and demo/session state; signing out is not a substitute for clearing saved guest information on a shared device. Restricted administrative tools use session cookies. We maintain limited first-party usage summaries to operate and improve ClassShuffle. These summaries do not contain student names, individual readiness values, grouping relationships or seating positions. We do not use third-party web analytics. Browser settings may limit or clear storage, which can affect sign-in and erase local-only work.
8. Data Retention
We retain account and classroom information while reasonably needed to provide ClassShuffle and maintain your account, rather than indefinitely for speculative future use. You can delete supported classroom information and your account. Subscription expiration alone does not delete classroom or Readiness Level information. Deleted information is removed from active systems; copies may remain temporarily in secure backups until normal overwrite or deletion. Limited financial, legal and security records may be retained as needed for legitimate obligations, including minimal identifiers preventing canceled-account billing events from restoring deleted records. Support correspondence and operational logs are retained only as reasonably needed for their purpose and applicable obligations.
9. Account Deletion
Use Manage Account, then Danger Zone, then Delete Account. Recent sign-in and confirmation are required. We stop subscription renewal before deleting account and classroom information; if billing cancellation fails, we stop deletion and display an error. Account deletion ends access to paid features. Cancel Subscription instead if you want to keep your account and use the remaining paid period. Financial records in Stripe and legitimate accounting, legal or security records are not necessarily deleted. See Account Deletion for instructions.
10. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards, including authenticated owner-scoped database rules, server-side billing operations and HTTPS for production service connections. Access to administrative tools is restricted. No system is absolutely secure. We investigate security incidents and provide notifications where required by applicable law.
11. Children and Student Privacy
ClassShuffle accounts are intended for adult educators aged 18 or older. Students and children should not create accounts. Teachers may provide limited student information for classroom use. Contact us if you believe a child created an account or information was provided improperly so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
12. Legal Bases for Processing
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our agreement with educators, legitimate interests in providing, securing and supporting the service, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where appropriate and genuinely required. The applicable basis depends on the information and purpose, subject to required protections for affected individuals.
13. Privacy Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, receive portable information, or withdraw consent without affecting prior lawful processing. Contact us to exercise rights or raise concerns. We may verify identity and authority before disclosing or changing information and will respond within legally required timeframes. You may also have the right to complain to an appropriate privacy authority. We may coordinate requests concerning teacher-managed information with the authorized educator or school where appropriate.
14. International Users and Data Transfers
Humbert Digital Products LLC is based in the United States. Information may be processed in the United States and locations where our providers operate. We use appropriate transfer safeguards where legally required. Privacy protections may differ by location; applicable non-waivable rights remain in effect.
15. No Sale or Targeted Advertising
We do not sell or rent personal information or use student information for targeted or behavioral advertising, advertising profiles, unrelated marketing to students or unrelated commercial purposes. We do not use advertising SDKs or tracking pixels in ClassShuffle.
16. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy as the service or legal requirements change. Material changes receive reasonable notice through the app, email or another appropriate method. The updated date identifies the current policy.
